FAQ

What is each of the two grit sizes used for?
The digit or ‘grit’ size shown on each side of the whetstone refers to the grit size of the abrasive particles in the stone. This is given as a number, as it indicates the spatial density of the particles. The lower the number, the courser and rougher the surface.

1000 Grit. This is your basic go-to sharpening stone. If your knives have lost their edge and need a good sharpen, then this grit is your starting point. You shouldn’t use this stone too often, as it will wear your knife down. This grit is designed for sharpening and not maintaining your knife's edge.

6000 Grit. This finishing stone should be used for polishing and honing your knife to a razor finish. It can be used regularly to hone your knife or after a lower grit stone for finishing touches.

Do I need previous sharpening experience to use this whetstone effectively?
Not at all! Our whetstone is super easy to use and the sharpening process is very simple. We provide detailed instructions and an angle guide so that even first-timers can bring their knives back to life with ease!
How often do I need to sharpen my knives?
It depends on your knives and how frequently you use them. Our Mëren blades contain high carbon content and are designed to retain their edge incredibly well, so they typically need to be sharpened 1-2 times a year. However, lower quality knives will require more frequent sharpening.
